SafarCabby Bike Rentals In Shillong FAQs

Question 1

What documents do I need to rent a bike in Shillong?

Accepted Answer

You need a valid driving licence (two-wheeler), a government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar, passport, or voter card), and a refundable security deposit. Most SafarCabby vendors in Shillong also ask for a selfie with the bike at pickup to document pre-existing condition. If you are riding toward restricted areas near the Bangladesh border at Dawki, carry the rental agreement as some checkpoints ask for it.

Question 2

Is a gearless scooter enough for the Cherrapunji road from Shillong?

Accepted Answer

Yes, a 110cc scooter handles the Sohra road comfortably as long as you are not carrying heavy luggage or a pillion on the steeper climbs. The road has long descents and climbs but nothing that exceeds a standard Activa's capability. For a solo rider with a daypack, scooty rental in Shillong works fine for Cherrapunji. For two riders or a loaded multi-day trip, a Pulsar 150 or Royal Enfield is more comfortable.

Question 3

How much does bike rental cost in Shillong for a full day?

Accepted Answer

Bike rental in Shillong starts at approximately ₹400 per day for a scooter and ranges up to ₹1,800 per day for an adventure motorcycle like the Royal Enfield Himalayan. A Royal Enfield Classic 350 typically runs ₹900–₹1,400 per day depending on season and vendor. Prices during October to December peak season tend to be 10–15% higher than off-season rates. Compare current vendor rates on SafarCabby before confirming.

Question 4

Are there fuel stations on the road to Dawki from Shillong?

Accepted Answer

There is a fuel station at Pynursla junction, which is about 60 kilometres from Shillong on the Dawki road. After Pynursla, there are no reliable fuel stations until you return. Fill up completely in Shillong before leaving and top up at Pynursla - this is the last practical stop before the descent to Dawki. A Royal Enfield's standard tank range covers the round trip from Pynursla without issue, but a smaller scooter should not skip this stop.

Question 5

Can I take a rental bike from Shillong to Guwahati?

Accepted Answer

Most vendors in Shillong restrict their bikes to Meghalaya state boundaries. Riding to Guwahati - about 100 kilometres on NH6 - requires explicit vendor permission and may involve an outstation surcharge. Confirm this with your vendor before booking. SafarCabby's platform notes vendor-specific outstation terms so you can filter for vendors who allow Guwahati rides.

Question 6

What is the best bike to rent in Shillong for the Dawki and Mawlynnong circuit?

Accepted Answer

A Royal Enfield Classic 350 is the most practical choice for the Dawki and Mawlynnong circuit from Shillong. The route covers around 200 kilometres in a single day with mixed road conditions - the Classic 350 handles the highway stretches, the narrow village roads near Mawlynnong, and the steep descent to Dawki without overheating. SafarCabby vendors with Classic 350 availability in Shillong book out quickly in peak season, so confirm at least two days ahead.

Question 7

Is riding safe in Shillong during the monsoon?

Accepted Answer

City riding in Shillong remains manageable during monsoon with good rain gear and tyres. Outstation rides toward Cherrapunji and Dawki become significantly more risky from June to September - the Sohra road gets waterfall runoff across the tarmac and visibility drops sharply in heavy rain. Most experienced riders restrict monsoon motorcycle rental in Shillong to city and plateau-level routes rather than the valley descents. If you must ride outstation in monsoon, go early, avoid cliff-edge roads after noon, and check road conditions the night before.

Question 8

Are helmets included with bike rental in Shillong?

Accepted Answer

Yes, SafarCabby's verified vendors in Shillong include one helmet with every rental. If you are riding with a pillion, request a second helmet at the time of booking - most vendors have them available but do not always include them automatically. Wearing a helmet is mandatory under Meghalaya traffic law, and police checkpoints on the Cherrapunji road do check.
