SafarCabby Bike Rentals In Goa FAQs

Question 1

Is a gearless scooter enough to cover both North Goa and South Goa?

Accepted Answer

Yes, for most itineraries a 110–125cc gearless scooter - an Activa or Jupiter - is perfectly adequate for the entire Goa coastline. The roads between North and South Goa are flat and well-surfaced on the NH66. The only routes where a scooter feels underpowered are the Dudhsagar forest track and the laterite sections near Cabo de Rama, where a Royal Enfield Classic 350 handles more comfortably. For a standard beach-hopping and sightseeing itinerary, a scooter covers everything you need.

Question 2

What documents do I need to rent a bike in Goa?

Accepted Answer

You need a valid Indian driving licence with a two-wheeler endorsement (or an International Driving Permit for foreign nationals), a government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar, passport, or voter card), and a security deposit - typically ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 depending on the bike. Verified vendors on SafarCabby will not accept expired licences or licences without a two-wheeler category. Foreign nationals should carry their passport along with the IDP. Do not hand over your passport as collateral - reputable vendors do not require this.

Question 3

Can I ride from North Goa to Dudhsagar Falls on a rented scooter?

Accepted Answer

Technically yes, but it is not recommended. The trail from Collem to Dudhsagar Falls involves a forest track with loose gravel and stream crossings that a 110cc scooter handles poorly, especially after rain. The jeep safari from Collem is the official route for most visitors. If you want to ride to the Mollem National Park entrance and take the jeep from there, a scooter is fine for that section. For riders who want to ride the full route, a Royal Enfield Himalayan or Classic 350 rental in Goa is the appropriate choice.

Question 4

Are there any road sections in Goa that are particularly difficult by bike?

Accepted Answer

The laterite road between Cabo de Rama Fort and Agonda Beach has loose gravel patches, particularly after the monsoon, and requires riding at 20–25 kmph. The Chapora village lanes near the fort approach are narrow and occasionally sandy. The Morjim–Ashvem stretch has unpaved sections. None of these are dangerous at appropriate speeds, but riders unfamiliar with gravel surfaces should slow down significantly. The main NH66 and the Calangute–Anjuna–Vagator road are smooth and present no terrain challenges.

Question 5

What is the fuel policy for bike rentals in Goa, and where should I fill up?

Accepted Answer

The standard fuel policy across verified vendors in Goa is full-to-full - you receive the bike with a full tank and return it full. Indian Oil and BPCL petrol pumps are available throughout Calangute, Mapusa, Panaji, and Margao. The critical gap to know: the last petrol pump before the Mollem forest stretch on the NH4A (Dudhsagar route) is at Ponda town. After Ponda, there are no pumps for approximately 30 kilometres. Fill up at Ponda regardless of your fuel level before entering the forest section.

Question 6

Is it safe to ride at night in Goa?

Accepted Answer

Riding between your accommodation and a nearby beach shack or restaurant at night is generally fine on the main lit roads. The Calangute–Baga road, Anjuna market road, and Panaji city roads are well-lit. However, the Chapora–Morjim stretch, the road to Cabo de Rama, and the Mollem highway are unlit and should be avoided after dark. During peak season (December–January), late-night traffic on the Calangute–Anjuna road after midnight is heavy and unpredictable - it is safer to return early and ride the next morning.

Question 7

Can I take a rented bike from Goa to Karnataka or Maharashtra?

Accepted Answer

This depends on the vendor's terms. Many local vendors restrict bikes to within Goa state boundaries. For outstation rides to Gokarna, Dandeli, or Hampi, you need to specifically confirm inter-state permission with the vendor before booking. SafarCabby vendors who offer outstation packages will specify this clearly in the rental terms. Always clarify before you ride beyond the state border - riding a restricted bike into another state can create issues at checkposts.

Question 8

What is the best time of year to rent a bike and ride in Goa?

Accepted Answer

November to February is the optimal riding window. October is a good shoulder month - post-monsoon roads are clean, the landscape is green, and pricing has not yet hit peak levels. December and January offer the best weather but the highest prices and most traffic. March sees thinning crowds and pleasant temperatures for morning rides. Avoid June through September if you are planning long rides - several beach access roads flood, the Dudhsagar trail closes, and monsoon rain makes laterite roads genuinely slippery.
