History and Geography
Ratlam, nestled in the heart of Madhya Pradesh, has a rich history dating back to the 14th century. It was once the capital of the Ratlam State, ruled by the Rathore dynasty. The city played a significant role in the Maratha Empire and later witnessed the British Raj. Its historical significance is reflected in its numerous forts, temples, and palaces.
Geographically, Ratlam is located in the Malwa plateau, known for its fertile black soil and a semi-arid climate. The city sits at an elevation of 200 meters (656 feet) above sea level. It experiences hot summers (April-June) with temperatures reaching up to 45°C (113°F) and mild winters (December-February) with temperatures dropping to 10°C (50°F). The monsoon season (July-September) brings much-needed rainfall.
