SafarCabby Car And Taxi Rentals In Rishikesh FAQs

Question 1

What is the best vehicle to rent for the Char Dham route from Rishikesh?

Accepted Answer

An Innova Crysta or similar full-size SUV is the practical choice for Char Dham roads from Rishikesh. The mountain stretches beyond Joshimath and toward Gaurikund have steep gradients and narrow switchbacks where ground clearance and engine power matter. A sedan works for Devprayag and Rudraprayag but becomes limiting on the higher altitude sections.

Question 2

How far is Jolly Grant Airport from Rishikesh, and how do I book an airport transfer?

Accepted Answer

Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun) is about 35 kilometres from Rishikesh town, roughly a 50 to 60-minute drive. Pre-booking an airport transfer in Rishikesh through SafarCabby ensures a verified cab meets you at arrivals without the queue or negotiation at the terminal. Late evening arrivals especially benefit from pre-confirmed pickups.

Question 3

Can I get a cab from Rishikesh to Haridwar for the evening aarti and return the same night?

Accepted Answer

Yes, this is one of the most commonly booked local routes. The drive takes about 40 to 50 minutes each way. Most travellers book a cab for the full evening - departure around 5pm, Har Ki Pauri aarti at dusk (typically 6 to 7pm depending on season), and return by 9pm. SafarCabby vendors handle this as a standard local round trip.

Question 4

Is parking near Laxman Jhula a problem with a rental car?

Accepted Answer

It can be, especially on weekends and during April-June peak season. The lane approaching Laxman Jhula fills up early and traffic management is inconsistent. Local drivers typically park near the Gita Bhawan approach or the Jonk side and walk clients across the bridge. Knowing where to wait makes a significant difference to how smoothly your morning runs.

Question 5

What is the road condition like from Rishikesh to Neelkanth Mahadev?

Accepted Answer

The road to Neelkanth is about 32 kilometres but takes 80 to 90 minutes because of the steep incline and forest switchbacks. The road is paved but narrow in sections, and during monsoon some stretches see minor waterlogging and rockfall debris. A hatchback can manage it in good conditions, but an SUV is more comfortable for families or older travellers.

Question 6

Can I book a self-drive car in Rishikesh for the mountain roads?

Accepted Answer

Self drive car rental in Rishikesh is available for local routes and shorter outstation trips like Haridwar and Dehradun. For longer mountain routes like the Char Dham corridor, most vendors recommend a chauffeur-driven option given the altitude, road conditions, and driving demands. Check vendor policies on SafarCabby for specific self-drive availability and route permissions.

Question 7

How does vehicle availability change during Kavad Mela and Char Dham season?

Accepted Answer

Both periods see a sharp drop in available vehicles. Char Dham season (late April to mid-June) is the tighter window - outstation cabs are booked weeks in advance by pilgrim groups and tour operators. Kavad Mela in July sees road restrictions that affect Haridwar-Rishikesh movement. Booking your cab at least 7 to 10 days ahead during these periods is strongly advisable.

Question 8

What is the fare for a cab from Rishikesh to Dehradun?

Accepted Answer

A one-way cab from Rishikesh to Dehradun starts at approximately ₹900 to ₹1,200 for a sedan, depending on the vendor and time of day. The drive covers roughly 45 kilometres and takes about an hour under normal traffic conditions. Jolly Grant Airport pickups and drops are typically priced slightly higher due to airport entry charges.
