Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, is a city steeped in history and natural beauty.
The city's roots can be traced back to the 1st century BC when it was established as a Buddhist center. Over centuries, it flourished under various rulers, including the Mughals, who left their mark on the city with stunning gardens and architecture. In the 19th century, Srinagar became a major trading hub for the region.
Srinagar is nestled amidst the breathtaking Himalayas in the Kashmir Valley. It sits at an altitude of 1,585 meters (5,197 feet) above sea level, and is surrounded by the Pir Panjal range. The city experiences a temperate climate with pleasant summers and cold winters. The average temperature during summers (May to October) ranges from 15°C to 30°C, while winters (November to April) see temperatures dropping below freezing.
