Historical Significance

  • Bhimkali Temple: Dedicated to the goddess Bhimkali, this ancient temple is a popular pilgrimage site, attracting devotees from across the region.

Historical Events

Lansdowne played a crucial role in the Indian independence movement. The town witnessed the formation of the Garhwal Rifles, a significant force in the British Army and later the Indian Army. During the Second World War, the Garhwal Rifles fought valiantly, contributing to the Allied victory.

Today, Lansdowne is a peaceful hill station, attracting visitors who seek a tranquil getaway amidst the scenic beauty of the Himalayas. It offers a glimpse into the rich history of the Garhwal region, preserving its colonial heritage while embracing the present.
